How to Choose the Right Touch Up Paint for My Volkswagen
Step 1 – Find Your Volkswagen’s Paint Code
Your VW’s paint code is usually on the vehicle information sticker in your car. You can also find it in the driver’s door jamb, inside the boot lid, or in the spare wheel well. The code is made up of letters and numbers (like “LA7W” for Reflex Silver Metallic).
Step 2 – Enter Your Vehicle Details
When you’re ordering, provide us with your vehicle registration number and paint code if you have it. This information helps us double-check that you’re getting the right colour match for your specific Volkswagen model to prevent costly mistakes and ensure perfect results.
Step 3 – Let Us Verify Your Order
We offer fast, reliable delivery across the UK with standard and next-day options available. We also ship internationally, bringing genuine Volkswagen paint to customers worldwide with competitive shipping rates and secure packaging.
Touch Up Paint for Volkswagen FAQs
How do I apply VW touch-up paint?
Volkswagen doesn’t supply instructions for touch-up paint kits, so we have listed guidelines for using them below.
Step 1
Make sure the area is clean and dust-free, and the temperature outside should be at least 10-15 degrees to avoid the paint coagulating or running. The best temperature is around 15-20 degrees.
Step 2
Apply very thin layers of the base (usually 2-3 very fine layers, with approximately 1 hour between coats depending on the temperature).
Step 3
Apply 1 or 2 coats of very thin layers of the Lacquer to complete (with around 1 hour between coats)
Please remember that a touch-up pen is a preventative measure to help protect bodywork from small stone chips.
How long does VW touch up paint take to dry?
VW touch up paint typically dries in stages. The base coat will feel dry to the touch within 60 minutes, but we recommend waiting at least 24 hours before applying the clear layer.
After applying the clear varnish, allow another 24 hours to dry properly. For the best results, avoid washing your car or exposing the repaired area to harsh conditions for at least 7 days to allow the paint to fully cure and harden. Weather conditions can affect drying times – warmer, less humid environments allow for faster drying.
Can I repair paintwork damage myself?
You can definitely repair minor paintwork damage yourself with our VW touch up paint pens. Small chips, scratches, and scuffs are perfect for DIY repair.
While deep scratches or large damaged areas might still need professional attention, most everyday issues can be repaired at home, saving you time and money while keeping your Volkswagen looking its best.
